A Day with Rachel Barton Pine - exclusively for YCA and Prelude musicians
A Touch of Class from a Master
Saturday, January 21st, 2006 was an unforgettable day for our YCA musicians. Nearly 100 students, parents and teachers from around the city observed a master class presented by renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Six students from the YCA and Prelude groups (Elizabeth Garbee, Jeremiah Moon, John Byrnes, Caleb Mote, Ray Grossman and Katie Merewether) received instruction on a prepared piece with Mrs. Pine. Her insights and instruction were invaluable. Students and parents had a rare opportunity afterward to attend Mrs. Pine's
rehearsal for her evening performance with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
Many of the young people had never been to the symphony, and it proved to be a
very positive experience for them.
YCA hopes to provide more opportunities like this one for the benefit of our student musicians.
At the Fine Arts Center
The day began with the master class at 10 am at the Fine Arts Center
in downtown Colorado Springs.
The class was open to all YCA and Prelude students, to listen to Rachel
instruct selected YCA and Prelude string students.
At the Pikes Peak Center
The YCA Orchestra and Prelude musicians were then invited to listen to Rachel Barton-Pine
practice with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic for her performance that evening.
