Chamber Music Program

Chamber Music n.    Compositions traditionally intended for performance in a private room or small concert hall and written for an instrumental ensemble, such as a trio or quartet, with one player for each part.

(The American Heritage Dictionary, 3rd Edition)

  • Many classical musicians enjoy playing chamber music.    Participation in a Chamber Music Group can provide great reward and satisfaction.
  • YCA Chamber Music Groups meet independently under the guidance of professional coaches from the community.
  • The Music Director based on the mix of applicants, selects Chamber Music Groups, and auditions may be required.
  • A coach is selected for each Chamber Music Group, and YCA has some excellent coaches including Karine Garibova (strings), Azi Vieira (strings), Paul Nagem (woodwinds), Len Rhodes (piano), and others as needed.
  • Each Chamber Music Group will choose a Primary Parent Coordinator to interface with the coach (and Music Director as required) to help schedule rehearsal times, performance opportunities, etc.
  • YCA Chamber Music participation requires a personal and group commitment. Members are expected to practice repertoire regularly and seek assistance from private instructors, and groups are expected to rehearse weekly during the season.
  • An extra Chamber Music fee covers the cost of coached sessions throughout the season.
  • In consultation with the Music Director, the coach will select appropriate repertoire. YCA will provide the music.
  • Groups will perform in an annual Chamber Music Recital, and select groups may be featured in YCA concerts at the discretion of the Music Director. Students are also expected to represent YCA in outreach performances.
